How to sign up
- Open Ubisoft's registration page, register.ubisoft.com/heroes-of-might-and-magic-3-remake, linked from Ubisoft's Steam post of Oct 19, 2026.
- Fill in the registration there. Ubisoft has not published the playtest's requirements (account, age or region) on Steam or in its news.
- Wait for word from Ubisoft. Signing up is "a chance to play", so registration does not promise a place.
Ubisoft has not said how or when it will tell players they are in. Following the Remake on Steam puts its announcements in a player's Steam news feed.
What Ubisoft has said
The playtest was first announced in Ubisoft's "Community Roadmap, Playtest, and Events" post of Oct 7, 2026: "Preparations are officially underway - we're working hard to get the game into some of your hands in November. Make sure to register around the middle of October" (Ubisoft on Steam). Sign-ups duly opened twelve days later, on Oct 19.
The same post sets out how the team will talk to players in the months ahead: four feature cycles of "roughly one month" each (Playstyles; Game Modes and Quality of Life; User-Generated Content; Multiplayer and Long-Term Operations), with developer blogs, videos, live streams and "prototype previews", and a feedback channel on Discord. The playtest comes while the team is still "refining several creature models" after criticism of the art, so the build players see may change before launch (What's New in the Remake).
Where it was and is playable
Before the playtest, the Remake has been playable only at events. At Gamescom in August 2026, players tried it at Ubisoft's booth and watched developer panels from the show floor (Ubisoft on Steam, Sep 4, 2026). The Oct 7, 2026 roadmap lists these stops for "the playable build":
| Event | Dates | Place |
|---|---|---|
| Guangzhou Animation and Game Festival | Oct 2 to 5, 2026 | Guangzhou, China |
| PAX Australia | Oct 9 to 11, 2026 | Melbourne, Australia |
| Paris Games Week | Oct 22 to 25, 2026 | Paris, France |
| Poznan Game Arena | Oct 23 to 25, 2026 | Poznan, Poland |
| Weplay Expo | Nov 21 to 22, 2026 | Shanghai, China |
What the press played
PC Gamer's Fraser Brown played the Remake "over a couple of hours ahead of its Gamescom reveal", taking in "the simple campaign prologue and the Arrogance scenario", a four-player map first introduced in The Shadow of Death in which each start sits close to a second town of the same faction, with underground entrances and shipyards nearby (PC Gamer, Aug 26, 2026). He found it "largely the game you'll remember, but with some convenient quality-of-life improvements", singling out the option to see enemy troops' movement ranges, and was less sure of the art: "The quality is there, then, but I fear the soul might be lacking."
YouTube creators had the same kind of access. Mortismal Gaming says he "was given the opportunity to attend a remote demo" and "got to play it for a couple of hours courtesy of Ubisoft" before the reveal (Aug 26, 2026), and stresses that he is no Heroes 3 expert, so his video is a general overview.
Grubby's video of the build (Aug 26, 2026) opens the campaign menu ("Jump into the Campaign") on its first map, "The Queen's Departure", whose briefing says King Nicholas Gryphonheart has died under suspicious circumstances; a story screen follows, then Catherine speaks in a 3D town of half-timbered houses and castle walls. A playtest build may differ.
